Worker Rights Consortium
Georgetown University is a founding affiliate of the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC). The WRC’s purpose is to assist in the enforcement of manufacturing Codes of Conduct adopted by its 186 affiliated colleges and universities. These institutions appoint representatives to the WRC University Caucus, which consults with the WRC Board of Directors on policy and best practices for protection of the rights of workers involved in the production of collegiate goods.
The University Caucus also elects five representatives from its membership who comprise one-third of the WRC Board of Directors. The other two-thirds are comprised, respectively, of representatives from the United Students Against Sweatshops and representatives of an advisory council including organizations with expertise in the area of worker rights. Since 2005, five Georgetown students have served as members of the WRC Board of Directors.
